On this page you will find more information about the traditional and often centuries-old churches in Bremen's city centre. If you are planning to visit one of the churches, attend a service or would like to find out about events and opening times, you have come to the right place.

2 St. Peter's Cathedral

St. Peter's Cathedral on Bremen's market square is one of the city's most striking landmarks. It has often changed its face over the centuries: built in the 11th century as a Romanesque church, the building, which is well worth seeing, was rebuilt in the Gothic style in the 13th century. Church services are usually held at 10 am on Sundays and public holidays. During the week, St. Peter's Cathedral is open from 10 am to 5 pm. At weekends, you can visit the cathedral on Saturdays from 10 am to 1.30 pm and on Sundays from 2 pm to 5.30 pm. There are also numerous guided tours of the cathedral, most of which you can attend without booking in advance. A visit to the cathedral museum or a climb up one of the 90-metre-high towers is also worthwhile!

2 Our Dear Women's Church

Our Dear Women's Church is the second oldest place of worship in Bremen after St. Peter's Cathedral and stands near the town hall. It was built as early as the 13th century and the congregation of Our Dear Women's Church looks back on almost a thousand years of history. You can visit the church from Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. The Protestant service always begins on Sundays and public holidays at 10:30 a.m. and is often accompanied musically by the church choir. In addition to the classical church service, the building, which is well worth seeing, offers you space for church concerts, lectures and meditation evenings as well as counselling by the city pastoral care and inter-congregational events.

2 St. Martin's Church

The Protestant St. Martin's Church is also called Sunte Marten in Low German and is located in Bremen's old town at Martinikirchhof 3. It was founded in 1229 on the Schlachte and is open for you from Monday to Saturday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 3 pm to 5 pm. Church services are held every Sunday at 10 am. In addition, there are other activities for you in the church, such as children's hour, a community afternoon or a church choir.

It forms the centre of the Stephaniviertel and can be visited Tuesdays to Sundays from 11 am to 5 pm. The Kulturkirche sees itself as a place of cultural experimentation and spiritual expression.
